The nurse plays a very important role in the hospital. A nurse performs most of the treatments on patients. Nurses work directly with the patients and may also be called upon to answer a client’s questions in regards to treatment.
Duties:
Patient treatment:
- Holding patients for treatment to be done.
- Drawing blood
- Drawing urine (Cystocentesis)
- Surgical Preparation
- Administration of medication (orally, rectally, SQ, IV, etc)
- Bathing pets
- Taking and developing X-Rays
- In-house lab work (Vet Test Machine & Urinalysis)
- Administering IV & SQ fluids
- Taking patient’s temperature
- Taking patient’s medical history
- Filling out treatment sheets
- Admitting boarding patients
- Admitting surgical patients
- Blood Pressure measurement
- EKG
- Ear cleaning
- Preparing patients for discharge
- Monitoring surgical/anesthetized patients
Maintenance:
- Sanitizing surgical items
- Taking out trash
- Cleaning exam rooms
- Cleaning cages
- Open/close hospital
Miscellaneous:
- Organizing lab forms
- Preparing samples to go to lab
- Preparing medications
- Handling Chemo therapy drugs
- Cross training as a receptionist
