Our hospital is equipped with state of the art Idexx laboratory machines allowing us to run bloodwork on our patients immediately. This not only saves time, but also insures that samples do not get ruined in transit to other labs. After taking a blood sample from a patient for the diagnosis of an illness or a routine test, we can have answers in as little as 10 minutes. We are also able to run Pre-surgical bloodwork panels right before a surgery so that we know if the anesthesia needs to be adjusted.
That being said, we do often send out bloodwork to the labs we partner with for better pricing or more complicated panels. They do a great job and we are grateful for them, however having the ability to run panels in-house can sometimes be the only difference between saving a pet and being too late.
